and our passion for farming

- Crops -

The farm covers an area of approximately 21 hectares in the district of Cortona in the province of Arezzo.

Sunflowers, wheat, barley and fava beans are grown on a rotation basis. Organic apples are grown on the farm and organic olive oil is also produced.

We have received organic certification for our apples and we have recently started cultivating giant bamboo on a 2 hectare site.

We respect the environment by only using organic fertilizers (manure, minerals or compost). Care is taken so as not to overwork the soil and consequently it is not impoverished and in addition the subterranean waterbeds are also undamaged. This method differs greatly from the industrial one which tends to favour industrial production concentrating on high yields and low costs but results in  damage to both the environment and to people’s health

GMOs and chemical products are banned from organic farming.

In our family vegetable garden we grow typical local produce from Valdichina. We try to look out for and cultivate ancient varieties that have almost completely disappeared from the counters of large supermarkets.

- Hospitality -

Since the beginning of the 1900s the farmers who worked on our family estate used to live in our guest apartments with their families and they formed a community of approximately 30 people.

They were self-sufficient and using their own baker’s oven, which can still be seen inside one of our apartments, they were able to provide enough bread for their community.

We always advise our guests to stroll around our property taking in the idyllic view of the lake and the woods. You can find many types of birds in the woods and there are also a lot of wild animals on the property. Look out for signs of deer, wild boar, porcupines, hares or birds of prey.

- Sustainable energy production -

Villa La Morina has produced energy using a photovoltaic  system since 2011.

Thanks to the solar panels on the roof of the storehouse we are able to produce enough energy to run both the farm and the holiday apartments.

A solar panel, placed on the roofs of farmhouse, guarantees a sustainable production of hot water.
